Dancing Krishna

Here’s another dancing Krishna standing at a mere 7 cm in height, yet radiating a strong presence. The rich chocolate-colored patina, the wear due to ritual use, his simplicity, grace and perfect balance immediately capture your attention.

As is normally the case Krishna is depicted naked.

Krishna stands gracefully on one leg atop a Padmapeetha, which is supported by a Bhadrapeetha. His right hand holds a butterball, while his left extends gracefully.

Although adorned with the usual set of ornaments—earrings, armlets, bracelets, necklaces, griddle, and anklets—Krishna appears plain.

This particular Krishna statue hails from Tamil Nadu. Its exceptional casting quality, the copper-rich alloy used, and the distinct Peetha design all contribute to its regional attribution. It is likely from the 17th century or possibly even earlier

Below is a collage of Dancing Krishnas with me. The one of the bottom right is from Odisha. Others are from Karnataka or Tamil Nadu. Their age range from 150+ to about 400 years.

They all are the same but are different.
