The special feature of this Ganesha is the spiralling trunk. That identifies him as Dagaduseth Halwai Ganapati of Pune.
This belongs to the genre of Pilgrim bronzes, and they tend to represent the iconography of the deity in a particular shrine. When devotees visit that shrine, they buy these ‘reproductions’ for worship or as gifts on their return to their native places. Of course, the locals and the sect followers buy them for their home shrines.
As a rule, pilgrim bronzes are distinct, small enough to be portable, and inexpensive to improve affordability.
This Vigraha is about 9 cm tall, and it is from Maharashtra. This may not date earlier than the nineteenth century.
This website has a few other examples of pilgrim bronzes, including Vishnu on Sesha, Vishnu with Lakshmi, Udupi Krishna and an Ardhanari.
This genre of bronze interests me. I welcome information on similar bronzes.
