A delightful Ganesha dating to the Pala period, 9th-11th century. The age shows. This four-armed, elephant-faced Ganesha is dancing happily, and his weight is on his right leg.
In his upper hands, he is holding an elephant goad and a battle axe. His right-turned trunk is reaching out to the sweet on his lower right hand.
The age, condition, dancing pose, the right-turned trunk and the complete form make this bronze a special one.
Unusual it may be, Ganesha is missing his vahana, a rat.
The swirling scarf suggests Bihar/North Bengal as the geographic region. This bronze is 10 cm tall.
He has a lovely and lively presence.
