Sometimes identification of this Vigraha is a challenge. That is the case here. No attributes, no Vahana and no context. The circular earrings are one of the clues towards geographical attribution. The material is another clue. This Vigraha is from the Gujarat region. Knowing the place of origin is a good starting point.
This is Rama doing Sandhyavandana, a mandatory prayer/meditation ritual performed three times a day. Thanks to Gaurav, a dealer/collector from Gujarat, for the identification.
Here Rama is sitting in Ardhapadmasana and his right hand is in Dahara Vidhya.
The quality of casting is above average, see the gap between the folded legs, the gap between his left hand and left leg, the earrings and the slightly leaning back posture (a sign of royal ease). Ornaments are minimal and some of them are engraved.
The Vigraha is about 7 cm in height, and it is 150+ years old.
Note: The book ‘Change and Continuity: Folk and Tribal Art of India Lowe Art Museum has a picture of a similar Vigraha (page 62, figure 125). The picture is marked Jaina Saint. Incorrect in my view. Other than that picture, I have yet to see a Jaina saint and/or Tirthankara with that mudra.
