Shiva (Gujarat)

This is Shiva and the identification is driven by Trishul in his right hand and Rishab, his vahana, by his left side. He is sitting in Lalitasana.

The unusual features include he is two-armed, holding a lotus bud (?) and, unlike the South Indian Shiva sculptures, he has matching ear ornaments.

The bracing of the Trishul to the Prabhavali, his sitting a short pilaster (see the rear view), plain Prabhavali and the circular earrings point to Gujarat as the place of Origin.

The seller mentioned it is from the Patan region of Gujarat and it is from the seventeenth century. The Vigraha is about 10 cm in height.

This is one of the unusual depictions of Shiva in my collection.
