Here, Yoga Rama is sitting in Ardhapadmasana, with a Yoga Patta around his knees. His right hand is in cin mudra, espousing wisdom.
This is the third Yoga Rama from Odisha in my collection. Always the same and always different. In the other two, Yoga Rama’s hand is in Dhara Mudra. See below for comparison.
As my collector-friend Tom says, this Rama is multitasking, meditating by practising yoga, espousing knowledge and holding a bow. And with the quiver on his back, he is ready for action. Never a dull moment.
Another way of looking at this is to note the transition from the first person (meditation) to the second person (sharing wisdom) and to the third person, possible enemy, with the bow and arrow.
The style of the ear ornaments indicates that this is from Odisha. The bronze is about 8.5 cm in height and may be dated to the nineteenth century.
A beautiful iconography.
